No matter where you are in your journey, you’re never alone
We arrived in France carrying something more than our suitcases: memories of home, dreams of new opportunities and the wish to belong. Somewhere along the way we realised for many Kenyans in France, that sense of belonging was hard to find. We were far from home and yet we weren’t fully anchored here either.
That’s when it hit us: when we unite, we’re stronger. So in 2020 (officially registered 28 October 2020) we came together to create this space for ourselves. Our core belief? Community matters. We believe that every Kenyan in France deserves connection, respect, support, and the chance to celebrate their heritage with pride.
In the early days it was modest: a handful of Kenyans meeting over coffee, sharing experiences of arriving, integrating, missing home, navigating paperwork, language, culture. We listened to each other stories of feeling isolated, of seeking a friend who understood, of longing for shared Jamhuri Day celebrations in a country far from home. Then we took a deliberate step: we formed the Kenyans in France Umbrella Association.Â
We organised culture nights, language exchange meet-ups, mentorship sessions, and gatherings where laughter, home-cooked chapati and Kenyan songs filled the room. We made tangible the idea of heritage in diaspora. As we’ve grown, we’ve welcomed students, professionals, families, new arrivals and long-time residents alike. We’ve forged partnerships, built networks, celebrated Kenyan independence, Kenyan food, Kenyan arts and in the process built something meaningful: a community.
Today our mission is clear: to empower Kenyans living in France to feel connected, represented and valued; to nurture our heritage and to build opportunities for ourselves and future generations. We are not a faceless bureaucracy. We are a network of friends, neighbours, students, professionals and families working together, sharing stories, supporting new arrivals, organising events, bridging cultures, building connection.
We envision a future where Kenyans in France are visible, influential, and united proudly celebrating our heritage while shaping society around us. Our goal is to grow through partnerships, mentorship, education, culture, and entrepreneurship, empowering every Kenyan to thrive. Together, we’re building bridges, strengthening our community, and creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.
We lead with honesty, accountability, and fairness.
Honoring heritage, bridging cultures with pride.
Embracing diversity, ensuring belonging for all.
Empowering each other through support and growth.
